Cochlear Implants

A Cochlear Implant consists of both external and internal components that work together to help a person hear more clearly. The external parts include a microphone, speech processor, and transmitter coil that capture sounds, convert them into digital signals, and send them to the implanted device. The internal parts, such as the receiver-stimulator and electrode array, receive these signals and transmit them directly to the auditory nerve inside the cochlea. This process bypasses damaged portions of the ear, allowing the brain to interpret sound naturally. Together, these parts restore the sense of hearing and improve speech understanding for individuals with severe hearing loss.
